Sinc Solution of Biharmonic Problems
In this paper we solve two biharmonic problems over a square, B = (−1, 1) × (−1, 1). (1) The problem ∇4U = f , for which we determine a particular solution, U , given f , via use of Sinc convolution; and (2) The boundary value problem ∇4V = 0 for which we determine V given V = g and normal derivative Vn = h on ∂B, the boundary of B. The solution to this problem is carried out based on the identity
متن کاملC IPG Method for Biharmonic Eigenvalue Problems
We investigate the C interior penalty Galerkin (C IPG) method for biharmonic eigenvalue problems with the boundary conditions of the clamped plate, the simply supported plate and the Cahn-Hilliard type. We prove the convergence of the method and present numerical results to illustrate its performance. We also compare the C IPG method with the Argyris C finite element method, the Ciarlet-Raviart...
متن کاملA C0 Linear Finite Element Method for Biharmonic Problems
In this paper, a C0 linear finite element method for biharmonic equations is constructed and analyzed. In our construction, the popular post-processing gradient recovery operators are used to calculate approximately the second order partial derivatives of a C0 linear finite element function which do not exist in traditional meaning. The proposed scheme is straightforward and simple. More import...
متن کاملPositivity preserving property for a class of biharmonic elliptic problems
The lack of a general maximum principle for biharmonic equations suggests to study under which boundary conditions the positivity preserving property holds. We show that this property holds in general domains for suitable linear combinations of Dirichlet and Navier boundary conditions. The spectrum of this operator exhibits some unexpected features: radial data may generate nonradial solutions....
متن کاملCritical growth biharmonic elliptic problems under Stekloff - type boundary conditions ∗
We study the fourth order nonlinear critical problem ∆u = u ∗−1 in a smooth bounded domain Ω ⊂ R, n ≥ 5, subject to the boundary conditions u = ∆u−duν = 0 on ∂Ω. We provide estimates for the range of parameters d ∈ R for which this problem admits a positive solution. If the domain is the unit ball, we obtain an almost complete description.
